A NOVEL BY MANDY KEIFETZ

Goliath C. Flanagan, ex-con and con man, wants out of the dusty little New Mexico town of Mapache, the kind of place a man would sell his soul to escape. Flan's plans aren't that prosaic—quite. To finance his move, he agrees to smuggle a cache of the drug "Smiley" into New York City.

Molly Veeka, Flan's girl, is waiting for him in New York.  A brilliant linguist and teacher, Molly is regarded as half mad by her colleagues. With good reason—she's routinely haunted by the ghosts of her gypsy father and her husband, Evan, who's a more attentive mate dead than he ever was alive.

Flan is reunited with Molly—but his stay in New York is brief. When a man tries to sell his soul—or even mushrooms—in order to escape his destiny, payback's a bitch. And so Flan and Molly are sucked back to Mapache, where they're drawn into an increasingly violent conflict with the town's criminal kingpin....

Awash in tequila, drugs, and regret, Corrido is equal parts black comedy, mournful thriller, and festive wake for the dead.
